4th of july run

ok… so this isn’t newport neach… nor the 4th of july. this is part of a huge parking structure for bicycles in amsterdam. as of summer 2005, when these pictures were taken, the population of the city proper was 742,951 and the population of the greater amsterdam area approximately 1.5 million. there are about 700,000 bicycles in the city. “great” — you’re thinking — “what the heck does this have to do with the 4th of july?” ok… now add thousands of drunk kids in their 20’s, one (or sometimes two) on each bicycle… now picture all these bicycles prancing about erratically, sort of like a bunch of particles in brownian motion… get the picture? now picture myself weaving my way through this mess, all for the sake of my tuesday run…
