second day in long island. never a dull moment…
- ice cream truck drives by my sister’s house.
- excited nephew ryan runs outside at full blast!
- disappointed nephew ryan stares as the truck drives away…
auntie nattie to the rescue!
i take off — barefoot, prescription glasses, cotton shorts and t-shirt — on a quest to bring back the truck. ‘follow the white truck!’, i think, (and the music), while being cheered on by drivers: ‘you’re almost there!’, ‘go for the ice cream!’… the soles of my feet are burning, but all i can think of is ryan’s cheery face, so i keep going. i run around the neighborhood until the driver sees me. he has to go the opposite direction and make a u-turn before he can stop where i am. i tell him ‘there’s a kid on salem and winding sitting on the steps waiting for you’. he asks for directions and heads there. i run back, arriving almost at the same time as the truck, and in time to see ryan’s happy face!
my feet after the adventure:
i should update your ‘weapons of choice’ to include a photo of your feet after the rescue.
what a great story, nattie! anything for love, right? 🙂
Hey.. well at least your feet aren’t looking as bad as they might after a 50 mile ultra 🙂 but pretty darn impressive for an ice cream truck! 🙂
I hope you had an ice cream too, you earned it!
hah! that’s awesome, nattie! take care of the feet, now!
i did not have an ice cream yesterday, but boy did i make up for it today… i punctured and drained the massive blisters this morning and was able to do just over 8 miles. not bad. thanks for all your words! it’s all worth it, blisters or not. the little one was so happy!
What an awesome aunt you are. I’m sure the blister was totally worth the smile on his face.
Great story! And what a Great Auntie!
Hope the feet will recover soon.
feet are as good as new. just thought i’d let you know! thanks everyone!
