reflections on womanhood

as a child i used to envision myself as a full-bosomed, self-confident adult woman wearing fashionable make-up and a flawless hairdo. today i barely fill an A cup, my best comb has “american airlines” written on it, and my only make-up article is a cover stick (to hide the effects of chronic insomnia).

In my teen years I realized I looked nothing like I felt inside. For me it was more of a teenage conceit than a vision of where I was going or “how it was supposed to be.” Now, I don’t know. I have the occasional argument with the camera. I suppose there is still that thing I felt a lot as a youngun’. That soaring feeling when listening to music, a little like you describe in another entry. What exterior matches that feeling? Freedom with a capital F, it is more like the set of sensations when you move about and are using your body well, an entirely different and better thing than image, where you try to match your exterior, which at times can still feel foreign, to the cover of a magazine at a check out rack.

I realize this may not have enough to do with what you wrote, so I shall say explicitly – I do relate to tht, even if it is something else entirely.

That is the funniest thing I have read in a long time! Mostly because it’s true for me as well. Except replace the cover stick with mascara. (I’m hoping spider-lashes draw attention away from the bags under my eyes.)

    Ha ha ! 🙂
That summed up my adult-life in a sentence.

hahaha! I love this 🙂 Such is life. Reality is not quite as pretty and perfect as we all envisioned. At least there’s always running. Always seems to make my reality seem a little brighter, a little better.

ok so I may be weird for saying this but I was touched at reading your blog. Why is it like that we must ask and is it possible to change that for the next generations to come?
I am sure you look gorgeous in your A cup, your comb must have some ( some ) memory attached to it and worse comes to worse, think of 9/11 and link that with american airlines, and maybe that is the only make-up article u infact need! you must have amazing skin elsewise!

very funny, and very true for most of us women! I have realized that beauty is everlasting and doesn’t depend on makeup and things. And besides, why make better the outside when I could be making better who I am, the inside? Awesome blog though, very entertaining.
